Volunteer
An hour a month is a real contribution.
This organization runs entirely on volunteers. There is no staff to fall back on, which means every hour someone gives is an hour that actually changes what happens for a child.
You do not need a background in education, a flexible schedule, or a free weekend a month. Some of our most useful volunteers have never set foot on campus during the school day — they cut fabric at home, make a phone call to a business they already buy from, or sew a pillowcase in front of the television.
Where help is needed
Events
Setup, check-in, serving, and cleanup at family nights, fundraisers, and celebrations. The clearest way in if you are not sure where you fit — you show up, you are told what to do, you go home.
Classroom and guide support
Preparing materials, cutting and laminating, organizing supply orders, reading with learners, and the appreciation work that keeps our guides supported through a long year.
Service projects
Sewing, packing, sorting, and driving for the community projects our learners take on. Our current sewing project supports Cook Children's, making pillowcases for children in the hospital. Read about it.
Skills and trades
Photography, graphic design, carpentry, gardening, bookkeeping, translation, web work, grant writing. If you do something well, we probably need it.
Business connections
You know a local business owner. That introduction is worth more to us than an afternoon of your time — local business sponsorship is one of the PTO's key fundraising priorities.
Committee and board work
For families who want a steady role: fundraising, events, communications, or volunteer coordination, with a real say in where the money goes.
Two things worth knowing
We track volunteer hours. Many employers pay a grant to a nonprofit based on the hours their employees volunteer, and grant applications ask for volunteer numbers as evidence of community support. Logging your hours costs you nothing and is often worth real money to the children. Tell us your employer and we will check whether they run a volunteer grant program.
We ask permission before we photograph anyone. No child's image, name, or work appears in our materials, on this site, or in a report to a funder without documented parental consent.
